Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort

As many of you know, I am planning a “girls only” trip in February for the Princess Half Marathon. Since my running partner & I are both moms and have never traveled to WDW in recent years without our children, we wanted to look at a doing things we wouldn’t normally do with the kiddos. Our first thought was resort. Shamelessly, I admit, I have never seen or stayed at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. I have always viewed it as a convention resort and/or more of an adult themed resort, so this is where we booked.

While researching this resort (we are both Disney travel planners, so this is what we do – lol) I found some interesting info & thought I should share:

Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort opened on August 1, 1997. The resort’s theming is inspired by the explorers who searched for the fabled Seven Cities of Gold and features a Southwestern U.S./Mexican feel with a tiled stucco lobby and a pyramid with water flowing from it.  There is also a Mayan ruin-themed pool and palm-shaded courtyards, along with Spanish-style haciendas help to complete the theme.

Of the 1,915 rooms at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, there are three sections in which they are divided into: The Casitas, which are made up of 5 buildings featuring 3 or 4 floors, that are closest to the Convention Center; The Ranchos, which is made of up 4 pueblo-style buildings that have 2 or 3 floors; and The Cabanas, which are made up of 4 buildings that have 2 floors that are somewhat near El Centro. Coronado Spring Resort was renovated in 2009 and rooms now feature two queen beds or one king bed, a flat screen TV, and many other modern touches.

Dining locations are plentiful at Coronado Springs.  Pepper Market is the Food Court and seats over 400 in an open-air market atmosphere. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner; it features both standard fare (baked goods, pizza, pasta, burgers, chicken) and Mexican cuisine. Pepper Market is open 6:30 a.m. – 11 p.m. Cafe Rix is located just off of the Lobby area and they are open from 6:30 a.m. until midnight for Quick-Service. Maya Grill is the full-service restaurant featuring a huge, wood-fired grill and guest seating surrounds a Mayan temple replica, and is open for dinner service from 5-11 p.m. Rix Lounge is the 300-seat lounge offering specialty drinks and appetizers and is open from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily. Siesta’s Pool Bar and Grill is located in the Dig Site pool area and offers counter service food and drinks from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Laguna Bar also offers some light bite options. Of course there is also room service available from 7 am to 11 pm.

Coronado Springs has an amazing themed pool called The Dig Site, as well as quiet pools in each of the three regions. The Dig Site includes a 272,000+ gallon pool, Siesta’s bar is located here, a sand volleyball court, the largest outdoor hot tub on WDW property, the Explorer’s Playground, and the Iguana Arcade. The Dig Site also features a 46 foot tall Mayan pyramid themed as a modern archaeological dig of a lost kingdom and water flows from the top of the pyramid down into the pool. This pool is open 8am to midnight. There are three quiet pools, one located in each of the regions: Casitas, Ranchos, and Cabanas. Towels are available poolside at the Dig Site, but no towels are available at the quiet pools.

Other recreation at Coronado Springs includes a children’s playground, an arcade, a nature walk and a marina that rents kayaks, pedal boats and electric boat from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There are also bicycles, both regular and surrey bikes, available for rental from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  In addition, you can rent a fishing pole, if you’d like to do some catch-and-release fishing on the lake.

As with all other Disney resorts, Coronado Springs also has a gift shop on property, Panchito’s Gifts and Sundries, located in the main building where you can find many Disney gifts along with Indian and Mestizo handcrafts. Panchito’s is open daily.

I am looking so forward to my stay in February! Because of the size of this resort, I may not stay there with little ones, but it seems to be a great choice for two adults on a quick weekend stay. I promise a more detailed review upon my return!

Sending pixie dust wishes & magical dreams your way – until next time…

Laura
